Automatic transmission shifting methods include: 1. The parking gear is the P gear. When parking, the gear selector must be moved to the P position. 2. The reverse gear is the R gear. 3. The neutral gear is the N gear, which can be used when starting the car, when the driver remains in the vehicle, when parking, or when towing. 4. The drive gear is the D gear. During normal driving, place the gear selector in the D position, and the car will automatically shift between forward gears. Shifting precautions: 1. Do not shift to P gear at traffic lights. The P gear is the parking gear, and usually, the key cannot be removed or the car cannot be locked without shifting to P gear. 2. Do not coast in neutral with an automatic transmission. 3. Never switch gears before the car has come to a complete stop.

As a friend who just started learning to drive, I was pretty confused at first too, but shifting an automatic transmission is actually super simple. Basically, just remember those gear letters: P is for Park, used when completely stopped; R is for Reverse, shift into it only when you're stepping on the brake to back up; N is for Neutral, used for temporary stops or towing; D is for Drive, that's what you use for normal driving. When operating it, sit in the car, step on the brake pedal, and gently slide the gear lever from P to D—no need to be too forceful to avoid damaging the car. The first time I tried, I was always afraid of making a mistake, but I found that as long as the brake is pressed, lightly pushing the lever won’t cause any trouble, and it becomes natural after a few tries. It’s best to avoid shifting while moving or operating without pressing the brake, as that can easily damage the transmission. When parking, don’t rush to shift into P—first turn off the engine and make sure the car is completely stopped before shifting to protect the car’s lifespan. Overall, it feels much easier than a manual transmission, and after driving a few times, it becomes incredibly effortless.
