The most reliable way to save a car in GTA 5 is to store it in a garage you own and ensure it is insured. Once a vehicle is parked in your personal garage, it becomes a "personal vehicle" and will reappear there if destroyed, provided it has insurance. For high-end cars you steal, purchasing insurance from Los Santos Customs is a mandatory step.
The game features several types of storable properties. Your first safe haven is the two-car garage at your initial safehouse. As you progress, you can purchase larger garages and high-end apartments, which often come with 10-car garages. The Mobile Operations Center and Avenger (with vehicle workshops) also function as secure storage for specialized vehicles.
| Property Type | Example Locations | Vehicle Capacity | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Safehouse Garage | 3 Alta St., Apt. 57 | 2 Cars | First available, low cost |
| High-End Apartment Garage | Eclipse Towers, Apt. 40 | 10 Cars | Includes planning room for heists |
| Office Garage (Executive) | Maze Bank West | 60 Cars (3 levels of 20) | Can be upgraded with mod shop |
| Facility | Grand Senora Desert | 7 Personal Vehicles | Stores special vehicles like the Khanjali tank |
| Nightclub Garage | Mission Row | 31 Vehicles | Multi-level storage for different vehicle classes |

Insurance is non-negotiable. You can buy it for any vehicle at Los Santos Customs. If a car is destroyed, call Mors Mutual Insurance (found in your in-game phone's contacts) to make a claim and get it replaced for a small fee. Remember, cars left on the street will not be saved. If you leave a vehicle somewhere and it disappears, it's gone for good unless it was properly stored and insured.
