Turn on the ignition, display the selector handle, and press and hold the left mileage button for more than 5 seconds until the oil lock display appears on the screen; At this point, release the button, and the display area will show the word "OIL" for 2 seconds. It's actually quite simple to reset the Suzuki Vitara's maintenance light by yourself. After my last service, I managed to do it on my own. First, turn the ignition key to the OFF position to shut off the engine. Then, press and hold the DISP button on the right side of the steering wheel without releasing it. Next, turn the key to the ON position to power up the instrument panel, and continue holding the button for about 5 seconds until the wrench icon disappears. This method generally works for older Vitara models, while some newer versions may require finding the maintenance reset option in the infotainment system's settings menu. Remember to start with the engine off and avoid starting the engine during the process. If there's no response during your attempt, it might be due to model differences - you can check the owner's manual or ask a mechanic to reset it with a diagnostic tool, which usually only charges a small service fee.

There are two methods to reset the Vitara maintenance light. For older models, use the steering wheel buttons: After parking and turning off the engine, press and hold the right DISP button, then power on and hold for a few seconds until the maintenance light goes off. For newer models, it may require operation in the infotainment system: After powering on, locate the maintenance option in the settings menu and perform a reset. If you're unsure, simply let the 4S shop reset it with a diagnostic computer during maintenance. Note that when the maintenance light comes on, you should get your car serviced. Never reset it without changing the engine oil and filter, as this is particularly harmful to the engine.

Last time I took my old Vitara for maintenance, the light was on and I followed these steps to reset it: Turn off the ignition -> Press and hold the DISP button firmly -> Turn the key to the ON position (without starting) -> Wait 5 seconds and release. The procedure might be different for newer models, as you may need to operate it through the trip computer menu. Make sure all doors are closed during the operation for the system to respond. If it doesn't work after a few attempts, don't force it. Just take it to the repair shop and have them connect an OBD device for a quick reset - it's hassle-free and saves effort.
