How to Reset the Tire Pressure Light on an Older BMW X5?

After adjusting the tire pressure, start the car and navigate to the maintenance interface in the I-Drive system, then press the second option. The screen will prompt: Please ensure the vehicle's engine is running and the car is stationary. Wait patiently for several tens of seconds, and the tire pressure light will be reset.
With over a decade of experience running an auto repair shop, I've encountered two common manual reset methods for the tire pressure light on older X5 models. For pre-2007 models, remember to first inflate all four tires (including the spare) to proper pressure. Turn the key to the ignition-on position without starting the engine. Locate the small stalk on the left side of the dashboard - press it until the maintenance symbol flashes, then long-press the button on the stalk's tip until RESET appears. Keep holding until the triangle symbol disappears. For post-2007 models with iDrive, it's simpler: after ignition, use the circular knob to navigate to Vehicle Settings → Tire Pressure Monitoring → RESET option, then press and hold the knob to confirm for about 10 seconds. The key point is to always verify correct tire pressure before resetting, otherwise the light will reactivate within 2 km - these sensors are extremely sensitive.
