Above the center console on the car roof, there is a switch for the sunroof sunshade. After locating the switch, manually toggle the sunshade switch: press once to close the sunroof, press twice to close the sunshade. When the vehicle is turned off, press and hold the lock button to automatically close all windows, including the sunroof. When the vehicle is turned off, press and hold the sensor on the outer side of the door handle to automatically close all windows, including the sunroof.
The other day, the sunshade of my Tiguan's sunroof got stuck and wouldn't open, which made me sweat with anxiety. After checking online, I found a reset method that seemed simple: first, start the car to power it on; then press and hold the sunroof control button for about 10 seconds without releasing—it will move slightly and reposition to its initial state. Before resetting, I checked the tracks and noticed some dust, so I gently wiped them with a soft cloth to prevent hard debris from causing blockages. After the reset, testing the open-close motion a few times showed much smoother operation. Remember not to pull the shade forcefully to avoid damaging the material. If it doesn’t work on the first try, repeat the process or disconnect the battery and try again later. Frequent jamming might indicate track wear, so it’s best to avoid opening it in dusty conditions and periodically spray automotive-specific lubricant on the tracks. Fixing it myself saved me a trip to the shop—just ensure safety and avoid damaging the car body before attempting. Overall, it’s simple and effective, even for beginners, as long as you follow the steps patiently.
