How to Reset the CRV Tire Pressure Warning?
2 Answers
Turn the Honda CRV's ignition key to the ON position; the dashboard lights will illuminate, and the vehicle's power will be activated. At this point, the tire pressure monitoring warning light will turn on. Check the air pressure in all four tires. Press and hold the tire pressure button next to the gearshift for more than 3 seconds. The tire pressure monitoring warning light on the dashboard will then turn off. Tire Pressure Monitoring: Tire pressure monitoring involves real-time automatic monitoring of tire pressure while the vehicle is in motion, alerting the driver to leaks or low pressure to ensure driving safety. Direct Tire Pressure Monitoring: Direct tire pressure monitoring systems use pressure sensors installed in each tire to directly measure tire pressure. Wireless transmitters send pressure data from inside the tires to a central receiver module, which then displays the pressure readings for each tire. The system automatically alerts the driver if tire pressure is too low or if there is a leak. Indirect Tire Pressure Monitoring: When the pressure in a tire decreases, the vehicle's weight causes that tire's rolling radius to shrink, making it rotate faster than the other wheels. By comparing the rotational speed differences between tires, the system monitors tire pressure. Indirect tire pressure warning systems essentially rely on calculating the rolling radius of tires to monitor pressure. Introduction to Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS): TPMS combines the advantages of both systems mentioned above. It equips direct sensors in two diagonally opposite tires and incorporates a 4-wheel indirect system. Compared to a fully direct system, this hybrid approach reduces costs and overcomes the indirect system's inability to detect simultaneous low pressure in multiple tires. However, it still cannot provide real-time pressure data for all four tires as effectively as a fully direct system.
My CRV also had the tire pressure light on last time, and it took me a while to figure it out. First, find a reliable tire pressure gauge and measure the pressure of all four tires when the car is cold. Adjust them according to the standard values on the sticker on the door B-pillar—for example, 32 psi for the front tires and 30 psi for the rear tires in summer. After that, start the car. For newer CRV models, go to the settings in the central control screen, select the vehicle, and find the tire pressure calibration to confirm the reset. For older models, press the TRIP button on the left side of the steering wheel to switch to the tire pressure interface, then hold the reset button for a few seconds. Make sure the car is stationary during the operation, and after resetting, drive for five minutes to let the system learn. If the light is still on, check the spare tire pressure or see if the wheel speed sensor is covered in mud. Getting the circuit checked at a 4S shop isn’t expensive either—spending a little money is much better than dealing with a blowout.
