How to Reset the Car Engine Malfunction Light?
2 Answers
Methods to reset the car engine malfunction light: 1. Start the car and observe the dashboard; 2. Turn off the engine, switch the ignition to the ON position (the ignition switch positions include OFF for turning off, ACC for audio system, ON for powering all vehicle electronics, and ST for starting); 3. Open the hood and the fuse box cover, locate and remove the 30A EFI fuse, wait for 10 seconds, then reinstall it; 4. Turn off the ignition switch and switch it back to the ON position; 5. Start the car, and the engine malfunction light should turn off after 3 seconds, indicating a successful reset. Precautions during reset: 1. Be careful not to drop the fuse into the engine bay, making it difficult to retrieve; 2. Do not leave tools in the engine bay to avoid injury or damage to the car when starting.
Recently my car also had this yellow light on, don't rush to reset it! First recall whether you just refueled at a small gas station, or if the fuel cap wasn't tightened properly—these could trigger it. Last time I used a phone app to connect to the OBD port and read the fault code, it showed an intake system leak, and it turned out to be a loose breather pipe. After tightening it myself and driving about twenty kilometers, the light went off. But if there's a real engine problem, the light will come back on after resetting. Never listen to online advice about disconnecting the battery to reset, that will lose the ECU data!
