How to Replace the Sunroof Drain Pipe?

Pry off the right side panel of the passenger dashboard, the small trim strip, and the small cover piece on the right A-pillar of the sun visor using a flathead screwdriver. Unscrew the internal hex socket head screw, pull it outward by hand, and lift it up after releasing the three snap fasteners. Once the A-pillar drain pipe is visible, remove the screws from the sun visor and the right sunroof handle. Take out the old drain pipe and its clips, then use needle-nose pliers to pull out the black connector. Install the new pipe and manually insert the black connector into place.
I previously replaced the sunroof drain tube on my car myself, and it felt quite simple but required patience. First, you need to locate the drain tube, usually at the four corners of the sunroof, running along the A-pillar or rear pillar down to the undercarriage. You'll have to open the interior trim or the door-side cover. Carefully unscrew the screws with pliers or a screwdriver, being careful not to damage the plastic parts. Then, pull out the old tube—it might be silicone or rubber, which can crack and leak when aged. Install the new drain tube, ensuring a tight connection, and press it by hand to test the seal. The whole process takes less than an hour, and you only need basic tools like pliers, a new tube, and a screwdriver. Remember, don’t use hard objects to clear the tube, as they might puncture it. On a related note, regular cleaning of the drain tube is crucial—accumulated leaves and debris can clog it, causing water to seep into the car and damage the interior or flooring. I flush mine with a soft hose every six months, which has significantly reduced issues—saving money and hassle. Safety first when working—wear gloves to avoid cuts.
