How to Replace the Rear Seat Backrest Cable?

Remove three interior trim panels (left, right, and rear panels on the upper part of the rear seat. Each side panel has three hex screws, and the rear panel has three plastic screws. Unscrew the two hex screws securing the rear seat backrest. Insert the tool through the round holes at the back of the rear seat to access them; there is a corresponding round hole on the opposite side. Pull the broken cable to open the door. If the cable cannot be located, unscrewing the two hex screws securing the lock mechanism can also open it.
Replacing the rear seat backrest cable is something I'm quite familiar with, and it's a DIY job. Prepare a Phillips screwdriver and small pliers, first make sure the car is parked securely and the engine is off—safety first. Locate the plastic cover on the side of the seat and gently pry it open with a small pry tool. The cable is underneath, connected to a metal hook—use the pliers to grip the old cable end and pull it out. Insert the new cable firmly into place, making sure it's not backwards, or it won't latch properly. Reattach the cover and test the backrest a few times to ensure it folds smoothly. The job takes under ten minutes—saves money and is practical, something I often do on older cars. If the cable is aging or brittle, spraying some rust inhibitor beforehand can help extend its lifespan.
