The method for replacing the cabin air filter in an XTS is as follows: 1. First, open the glove compartment on the passenger side. 2. Push the sides of the glove compartment inward to expose the protruding parts on both sides. 3. Push the linkage rod toward the engine direction to release it. 4. After removing the glove compartment, take out the cover in front of the filter. 5. Once the cover is removed, the cabin air filter will be visible; remove it. 6. Proceed with cleaning or replacement. 7. You will see a fan-like component; then, reassemble everything in the reverse order of removal.
I think replacing the cabin air filter is a pretty simple job, especially for cars like the XTS. You can get it done just by opening the glove box. First, I check the glove box, gently pull it down, find the clip or screw, and loosen it with a regular screwdriver. After removing the cover, you can see the position of the old filter. If the old filter is too dusty, just throw it away. When installing the new filter, make sure the arrow direction is correct and align it with the airflow indicator. Normally, when we drive, poor air quality can easily affect the cabin air, so frequent replacements can reduce allergies or odors. It's best to check it every 10,000 kilometers or so. After replacement, test if the air conditioning airflow is normal. The whole process takes about ten minutes, and doing it yourself saves money compared to going to a shop. The XTS design is quite user-friendly, much easier than some German cars. As long as you don't force the glove box open, you generally won't break anything.
