How to Replace the Battery in a Volkswagen CC Key?

There is a rectangular button on the left side of the key. Press it firmly, and the spare key will pop out. Then, remove the spare key. At the top of the key, along the connection between the black plastic and the top cover plate, use your thumb to push the top cover plate firmly until you hear a click, then remove the top cover plate. On the back of the key, you can use a metal or plastic tool to gently pry open the connection at the plastic shell. Use a toothpick or a paperclip to gently lift the battery, then remove it by hand and install a new coin cell battery.
I previously helped a friend replace the battery in their Volkswagen CC key, and the process was quite straightforward. First, you need to confirm the key model—older CC models usually have a folding key, while newer ones might feature a push-to-start design. Get a CR2032 coin cell battery, which is available at convenience stores or hardware shops. Use your fingernail or a small blade to gently pry open the key casing from the side seam, being careful not to break the clips. Once the battery compartment is exposed, remove the old battery and insert the new one with the positive side facing up. You’ll hear a click when it’s securely in place. Finally, snap the cover back on and press firmly, then test the remote locking function. The whole process requires no tools, takes about five minutes, and can save you around a hundred bucks in dealership labor costs.
