How to Repair Scratches on New Rims Caused by a Tire Changer?

If the scratch hasn't reached the inner side of the rim, it can be easily repaired. Use paint thinner to wipe around the scratch and remove any dirt. For the deepest part of the scratch where dirt is hard to remove, use a toothpick to clean it thoroughly. Apply touch-up paint. Since the paint will shrink slightly as it dries, it's best to apply it slightly raised. After applying, wait about a week for it to dry completely. Once dry, use waterproof paper dipped in soapy water to smooth the surface. Polish with a compound to restore shine, then apply wax.
