How to Repair a Seat Belt That Won't Pull Out

Adjust the height of the height adjuster to give the seat belt extra retraction capacity, thereby restoring its retraction performance. Smooth out the seat belt and gently pull it back and forth at the entry and exit points. Once the seat belt retracts smoothly, slowly pull it out. There may be a mechanical failure where the seat belt connects to the interior of the car. In this case, it is necessary to go to a 4S shop for disassembly, inspection, and repair.
When the seatbelt won't pull out, I usually stay calm and first check if it's stuck in the buckle. Sometimes dust or small debris can block it, making it hard to pull—try gently brushing the buckle with a toothbrush. Issues with the seatbelt retractor spring or locking mechanism could also be the cause, like when it automatically locks after sudden braking; pulling it back slightly and then slowly releasing might help. If that doesn’t work, check if the seatbelt path is twisted or tangled. I’ve faced similar situations before, and in the end, I had to take it to a repair shop for the mechanics to fix—they can professionally clean or replace parts. As a preventive measure, I recommend cleaning the seatbelt entry point monthly and avoiding placing trash nearby. If it gets damaged, it could compromise safe driving. Remember not to yank it forcefully, as that could break components and make things worse—addressing the issue promptly is the best approach.
