First, attach a small mirror to the inside of the glass to better reflect the condition of the crack. Place the triangular suction cup on the glass, extract any residual air from the damaged point, and apply pressure to inject the resin from the repair tool into the damaged area of the glass. Pull up the lever of the vacuum injector and wait for 5 to 10 minutes, then carefully observe the small mirror to check for any bubbles. Once the adhesive has fully penetrated the crack, use a UV curing lamp to quickly solidify the repair resin. After the resin has hardened, remove the UV curing lamp and peel off the transparent plastic film, completing the windshield repair process.

Last time my windshield got a small crack from a flying stone, so I bought a repair kit to fix it myself. First, you need to thoroughly clean out any dust and debris from the crack. Then, position the injector over the crack and secure it in place before slowly pressing the resin adhesive into the gap. The resin needs to penetrate the crack and be cured with a UV light—this step is crucial to avoid leaving air bubbles. If done well, the repair will be virtually invisible and can prevent the crack from spreading. However, if the crack is larger than the size of a palm or located in the main line of sight, it's best not to attempt a DIY repair—replace the entire windshield without hesitation, as safety comes first. If you do decide to repair it yourself, choose a cool and dry time of day, as high temperature and humidity can affect the resin's penetration.

In the morning, I noticed a 10-centimeter crack on the windshield while driving and immediately took it to a professional repair shop. The technician first drilled a stop-drill hole at the end of the crack with a drill bit, then used a vacuum pump to extract the air inside the crack. During the resin injection process, the pressure was repeatedly adjusted to ensure the liquid filled every crevice. After completion, a UV light was used in three stages to cure the resin. The entire process took 40 minutes and cost 150 RMB, including a repair warranty card. The technician said it was money well spent, as leaving it unattended could turn it into a full-length crack after a few bumps. Nowadays, the technology is much more advanced, and professionally repaired windshields can achieve nearly 90% of the original glass strength. The key advantage is avoiding the need for disassembly, which prevents damage to the sealing strips.

Windshield crack repair requires prompt action. My recent repair experience shows that the highest success rate is within three days of the crack appearing. For DIY repairs, pay attention to three key points: Use a dedicated glass scraper to thoroughly clean the area, leave a 3mm resin bulge during injection to ensure sufficient filling, and maintain a 3cm distance while evenly moving the UV lamp during curing. For radial cracks exceeding 25cm, replacement is recommended. Avoid immediate water exposure after repair, especially during rainy days. Front windshield cracks affecting annual inspections must be addressed. After repair, it's best to avoid car washes and highway driving for 72 hours, as significant temperature differences may cause resin shrinkage and fine cracks.
