Temporary license plates can be reapplied for once they expire, but the vehicle management office may issue temporary license plates no more than three times. When using temporary license plates, the following three aspects should be noted: First: Local temporary plates can be extended up to three times, totaling a usage period of 21 days. Second: They can only be used within the city and must not be driven outside the designated area; otherwise, the vehicle will be treated as unlicensed. The procedure for extending the validity of a temporary license plate is the same as the initial application. The owner needs to provide identification, vehicle purchase invoice, new vehicle certificate, compulsory traffic insurance certificate, or import certificate and copies of relevant documents to the public security authority to apply for a temporary license plate. During the application, the starting and ending locations of the vehicle's use and the duration of the temporary plate must be specified. The process typically takes about one working day to complete and is postponed in case of holidays. Third: Expired temporary license plates must not be used on the road. If the vehicle has not been formally registered and continues to use an expired temporary license plate, it is equivalent to "driving a motor vehicle on the road without displaying a license plate."
