How to Remove the Spare Tire on a Buick GL8?

The spare tire is located underneath the vehicle, in front of the rear bumper, which is below the trunk. The tools required for removing the spare tire are all stored in the rear compartment of the vehicle. Attach the folding wrench to the extension rod, then insert the chisel end of the rod diagonally through the hole in the rear bumper to engage the lifting shaft. Turn the folding wrench counterclockwise until the spare tire lowers to the ground. Continue turning the wrench until the spare tire loosens and can be removed.
I've taken out the spare tire of my Buick GL8 several times because my family often goes on long trips. First, open the trunk—the spare tire is usually located under the floor panel. Lift the panel, and you'll see the spare tire secured there. You'll need a small wrench or screwdriver to loosen the central fixing screw; remember to turn it counterclockwise—don't twist it the wrong way. The GL8's spare tire is a bit heavy, around 10-15 kg, so I recommend squatting down and using both hands to lift it out slowly to avoid straining your back. If the screw is rusty, spraying some WD-40 lubricant can make it much easier. After removing the spare tire, don’t forget to check the tire pressure. I always carry a portable air pump with me in case I need it on the road. Take your time with the whole process—safety comes first. Last time I helped my neighbor, I almost slipped because I was in too much of a hurry. After removing the spare tire, placing a reflective warning sign is a good idea.
