How to remove the OBU device?

To remove the OBU device: 1. First, use a hot air blower to heat it; 2. Then, use a thin card to pry it off and wipe away any residual adhesive with a cloth. The OBU is a microwave device that communicates with RSU using DSRC technology, and it is installed on the upper middle part of the car's front windshield. The function of the OBU is: using DSRC technology to establish a microwave communication link with RSU, enabling vehicle identification and electronic fee deduction without stopping the vehicle, thus creating an unattended vehicle passage.
I recently removed the OBU device because I got a new car. These things are usually stuck to the windshield with strong adhesive. The process is quite simple: first, use a hairdryer on the hot setting and blow it at the adhesive for a few minutes to soften it—don’t get too close to avoid overheating. Then, use a plastic card or a dedicated scraper to gently pry it from the edge, being careful not to use too much force to prevent cracking the glass. After removal, any leftover adhesive on the glass can be wiped off with alcohol or adhesive remover. However, I should warn you that the OBU will become inactive after removal, and you’ll need to visit an ETC service point to reactivate it. Make sure to park and turn off the engine during the whole process—safety first.
