Method to remove the maintenance reminder on a Volkswagen Polo: First, turn off the engine, then press and hold the right button below the instrument panel while inserting the key and turning it to the power-on position. Once the key is turned to power-on, release the right button. At this point, a small wrench symbol will appear. After the wrench symbol appears, press the left button below the instrument panel once, and the wrench symbol will disappear. The instrument panel will then return to normal display. The Volkswagen Polo is a compact car launched by SAIC Volkswagen, with body dimensions of 4053mm in length, 1751mm in width, and 1446mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2564mm. The Volkswagen Polo is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine.

I reset the maintenance light on my 2011 old Polo by myself. After turning off the engine, press and hold the small square button on the right side of the dashboard without releasing it, then turn the key to the power-on position (do not start the engine). At this point, the maintenance reminder will pop up in the middle of the dashboard. Continue holding the button until the display area turns into three dashed lines, and you hear a ding sound before releasing it. Finally, turn off the power and restart the car, and the wrench symbol will disappear. Note that some models require simultaneously pressing the brake pedal during operation, so it's recommended to check the owner's manual first. If it still doesn't work, connect an OBD device to reset it. Many car enthusiasts in the group say the 5053 cable can get it done.

Last time I went to the 4S shop for an oil change, the technician taught me a new method. There's a menu navigation button on the right side of the steering wheel. First, turn off the engine but keep the power on without starting it. Repeatedly press the left and right arrow keys to switch to the settings menu, find the 'Maintenance' option, and press confirm. Inside, there's a submenu for resetting the cycle; select 'Reset' and then hold the OK button for three seconds. After completion, it's best to wait ten minutes before starting the engine, so the onboard computer can update the parameters. The new Polo with an LCD screen is even simpler to operate; you can directly slide to find the reset button in the vehicle settings.

Only by disassembling the old Polo's dashboard did I discover the hidden operation: Press the start button twice without stepping on the brake (with the dashboard powered on), then immediately hold down the 0.0 button below the speedometer. Release when the maintenance inquiry interface pops up, quickly press the windshield heating button (the one with the fan-shaped icon), and the reset is completed in just five seconds. This method is invalid for models after 2013 that have eliminated the center console buttons; new models must operate via the steering wheel buttons. If the operation fails, don't try repeatedly—it might be because the ECU is still recording data.

Simply use the steering wheel control buttons. Turn the left-hand scroll wheel to the vehicle status interface. When scrolling to the 'Service' section, press the scroll wheel and locate the 'Reset Maintenance Interval' option in the secondary menu. Here's the key point: You must simultaneously press the brake and accelerator pedals to activate the reset function! Hold them steady and press the scroll wheel to confirm – the dashboard will briefly flash the fuel consumption data to indicate success. This operation clears the maintenance reminder for the next 6,000 kilometers. Remember to have the technician reset the interval parameters using diagnostic equipment during your next oil change.
