Method for removing the headlights of the Rapid: 1. Unplug the power connector of the bulb; 2. After unplugging the power connector, remove the waterproof cover behind the bulb; 3. Take out the bulb from the reflector, which is usually secured by a wire clip; 4. Place the new bulb into the reflector, align it with the fixing position, and push the wire clips on both sides inward to secure the new bulb in the reflector; 5. Reattach the waterproof cover and plug in the bulb's power connector. In terms of body dimensions, the Rapid measures 4501 mm in length, 1706 mm in width, and 1469 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2603 mm. In terms of exterior design, the Rapid features a new Škoda family-style front end, including a vertical chrome grille, a long chrome trim on the lower air intake, and a simplified new logo, all of which align with its youthful positioning.
Last time I helped my brother remove the headlight of his Rapid, we had to take off both sides of the front bumper first. After opening the hood, there were plastic clips on the bumper that needed to be pried open with a screwdriver. Inside the wheel arches on both sides of the bumper were screws that required lying on the ground to unscrew—it was really dirty. After unplugging the headlight connector, we still had to remove the bracket screws, which was particularly exhausting. The bulb socket is twist-type; just rotate it to open, but be careful not to touch the glass of the bulb. I replaced it with an H7 halogen bulb, and when unplugging, you need to firmly press the clip. When reinstalling, align the position first before tightening the screws, otherwise the headlight gap might be misaligned. Finished drenched in sweat, but saved 200 bucks on labor costs.
My Rapid has had its headlight bulbs replaced twice. It's a common issue with Volkswagen group cars - you basically have to mess with the bumper to remove the lights. First remove the front wheel arch liner mudguard, which has five plastic expansion rivets - they're fastest removed with special pliers. The screw under the headlight assembly is the most annoying - you'll need an extension bar socket. The bulb connector is extremely tight and needs to be wiggled while pulling. Remember to buy the bulbs beforehand - the Rapid uses H7 for low beams. Last time I nearly stripped the bracket screw using a 13mm wrench, only to find a 10mm socket fit perfectly. Finally, realign the bumper gaps during reassembly, otherwise you'll get rattling noises while driving.
