How to Remove the Golf Hood Release Handle?

First, remove the foam under the driver's seat and then take out the small drawer below the steering wheel. Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the handle and the A-pillar trim panel, pry gently, and the handle can be removed.
A few days ago, I took apart the hood release handle of my Golf myself, and it wasn’t too complicated to handle. It’s usually located near the driver’s footwell, and all you need is a Phillips screwdriver. First, pry off the cover panel—it’s usually held by clips, so avoid using excessive force to prevent cracking. Inside, there’s a screw connected to the release cable; loosen and remove it to replace or clean the handle. For safety, turn off the engine and disconnect the battery to prevent accidental activation. When reassembling, make sure the cable isn’t tangled, and test if the hood opens smoothly. Dust buildup can easily cause stiffness, so regular checks can extend its lifespan. After disassembling and cleaning mine, it’s now very responsive. I recommend checking the car’s manual for specific diagrams before you start.
