How to Remove the Focus Gear Shift Knob?
2 Answers
Pry open the old shift lever cover and push it upwards to expose the linkage of the shift knob. You will find a clip underneath—use needle-nose pliers to loosen it. Then, pull the shift knob upwards forcefully. Once the knob is removed, the shift lever rod will be exposed. Install the new shift knob and secure it using a Phillips screwdriver.
Removing the Focus gear knob isn't that difficult - I've done it on my own car before. First, completely turn off the engine and shift to P or N gear for safety. Most Focus gear knobs can be unscrewed by turning counterclockwise. If it doesn't loosen, check if there are screws under the cover plate - just pry it open with a small flathead screwdriver and remove the screws. Note that some models have lighting wiring, so gently unplug the electrical connector first without pulling too hard to avoid breaking wires. When installing the new knob, tighten it properly to prevent loosening while driving. Basic screwdrivers are sufficient tools, saving you a trip to the repair shop. Doing this during routine cleaning or part replacement can extend component lifespan. Remember not to force it and damage the clips - take your time and you'll get it done.
