How to Remove the ETC Device?

ETC device removal depends on blocking the anti-tamper switch. You can press the electronic tag firmly with your hand, then use a wallpaper knife to cut through the double-sided adhesive between the device and the windshield. Be sure to keep pressing the anti-tamper switch during the entire process and remove it carefully. Here are some important notes about ETC lanes: 1. Do not exceed the speed limit when passing through an ETC lane. The ETC lane sensing area is 8 meters, and the sensing speed is below 20km/h. Speeding may not only prevent the system from detecting your vehicle but could also result in penalty points. 2. If a driver mistakenly enters an ETC lane, making a U-turn is not considered a traffic violation. If there are no vehicles behind, you can reverse and enter an MTC lane or a manual toll lane to pay the toll in cash or by card. If there are vehicles behind, you can ask them to make way or seek assistance from toll station staff.
I've personally removed the ETC device several times, and the process isn't actually difficult but requires patience. First, turn off the device's power to prevent accidental activation. The ETC is usually stuck to the corner of the windshield with a particularly strong double-sided tape. My go-to method is using a hairdryer to heat the adhesive area for about half a minute to soften the glue, then gently wiggle or twist the device to loosen it slowly. If the adhesive is stubborn, use a thin nylon thread to saw back and forth between the glue and the glass, being careful not to touch the glass surface. Once removed, residue might remain—just spray some alcohol or a dedicated adhesive remover to clean it off. Don't rush the process; use gentle force to avoid cracking the glass. The device can be reused, but avoid dropping it to prevent internal damage. After cleaning the glass, check to ensure no debris obstructs your view. When storing the device, keep it in a safe place to prevent loss. Remember, this method works for most ETC types, taking about 10–15 minutes, and even beginners can handle it easily.
