Locate the screw hole on the left side of the steering wheel and use a T40 tool to loosen the screw. The screw only needs to be loosened as it cannot be completely removed due to internal positioning restrictions. After loosening the fixing screws at both ends, the airbag can be detached from the steering wheel, but it cannot be taken off completely because it is still connected by the clock spring wiring harness. You will notice that the back of the driver's airbag is connected to the clock spring wiring harness, which needs to be removed. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to release the fixing clip of the wiring harness, putting it in a non-fixed state. After releasing the locking mechanism, use the small flat-head screwdriver to disconnect the black connector. At this point, the main airbag can be completely removed.

Removing the Jetta's airbag, I gotta say, it's no easy task. I've tried it myself a few times. First, you need to completely disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and wait patiently for 20 minutes to let the system discharge. Otherwise, touching anything could trigger the airbag to explode. The steering wheel cover has clips, so you need to pry it open carefully to avoid damaging the plastic. Then locate the airbag module—never yank the yellow connector randomly; first loosen the securing bolts and gently remove it. Throughout the process, keep your hands steady and avoid shaking. Once the steering wheel is off, the airbag is exposed, but never touch the center of the module directly—that's where the high-pressure gas device is. If you mess up and the airbag deploys suddenly, the impact can injure your arms or eyes. That's why I always recommend getting help from a nearby repair shop—they have the right tools, plenty of experience, and can do the job more safely.

Don't attempt to remove the airbag yourself. I've witnessed too many tragic cases where it accidentally deployed with terrifying force, causing anything from bruises to fractures—it's extremely dangerous. The Jetta's airbag is installed in the center of the steering wheel and requires specialized tools and skills for removal. Even with the battery disconnected, residual current can trigger an unexpected deployment at any moment. Airbags are life-saving devices designed to protect you in accidents, but improper handling can turn them into health hazards. Stop immediately and avoid the risk—head straight to an authorized 4S dealership or certified technician. They possess anti-static equipment and professional expertise to perform safe, standardized removal and installation, ensuring 100% safety.

Last year, my neighbor's young son tried to remove the airbag from his Jetta himself. However, he used a pry tool improperly, causing the airbag to deploy with a loud bang and injuring his arm. It was almost a serious accident. From that lesson, I learned that disassembly must not be taken lightly. The Jetta's steering wheel airbag module is well-hidden, and the process must be precise: first, disconnect the battery, then wait for the system to cool down, followed by gently removing the cover, unplugging the connector, and loosening the screws. Every action must be slow and careful, treating it like handling delicate electronic equipment. Misoperation carries extremely high risks. Now, I only recommend professional workshops for inspections—it's worry-free and reliable.

As an ordinary car owner, I understand the impulse to save money, but airbags cannot be removed recklessly. They contain sensors and complex circuits. The Jetta model's airbag placement is particularly sensitive. Even after disconnecting the battery, hidden dangers remain. If triggered accidentally, it could endanger lives. During maintenance, it's best to regularly check the dashboard airbag light. If there's an issue and the light comes on, take it to a repair shop immediately—don't attempt DIY fixes. Repair shops use multimeters to test and ensure the system is functioning properly, making the process both quick and worry-free. This saves you from potential regrets later.
