How to Remove ETC?

ETC can be removed by the following methods: 1. Use a hairdryer to blow hot air at the joint between the OBU device and the windshield, then slowly twist the OBU device off by hand; 2. Soak a towel in hot water and place it on the outside of the windshield to heat the adhesive tape behind the OBU device, then remove the device. ETC is an electronic toll collection system. Its working principle is: through dedicated short-range communication between the vehicle-mounted electronic tag installed on the vehicle's windshield and the microwave antenna on the ETC lane at the toll station, the system uses computer networking technology to perform background settlement processing with the bank, achieving the purpose of vehicles passing through highway or bridge toll stations without stopping to pay tolls.
I remember last time helping a friend remove an ETC device, and found the key lies in dealing with the adhesive. The ETC base is stuck to the windshield with industrial double-sided tape, which can't be pulled off by brute force. It's recommended to spray automotive adhesive remover along the edges and wait three to five minutes for the adhesive to soften. Then, use an old credit card or similar hard plastic piece to slowly pry it off—patience is crucial. I've seen people rush the process with a razor blade, only to scratch the windshield with several marks, resulting in repair costs higher than the ETC itself. After removal, residual adhesive will remain on the glass. Apply some essential balm, then wipe in circular motions with a damp cloth. Finally, dry the glass with newspaper to leave no trace.
