How to Remove and Install a Skoda Steering Wheel?

The steering wheel is quite easy to remove. Use a mirror to look at the back of the steering wheel, press down with a small screwdriver, and the airbag clips will pop out on their own. The three clips can be removed in seconds. Pay attention to the airbag wiring harness. First, pull the white lock outward, then pinch the yellow connector and pull it outward with force. After removing the airbag, you'll see the V-shaped metal rod—the airbag clips are fastened onto it. For the original car's airbag wiring harness, remove one and replace one to avoid mistakes. To remove the steering wheel, use an M12 spline. Hold the wheel with your left hand and apply slight force with your right hand, and it will come off.
Last time I replaced the steering wheel on my Skoda, I realized it's a step-by-step process. First, you need to disconnect the car battery and wait about 5-10 minutes for the system to completely power down, otherwise the airbag might accidentally deploy. My car model is the Octavia, so I had to remove the cover behind the steering wheel first, then carefully take out the airbag module. When handling the airbag, avoid touching the wires randomly—just place it gently aside. After that, loosen the retaining nut, and once you've turned it open with a wrench, you can slowly remove the steering wheel. Installing the new steering wheel is pretty much the reverse process, but make sure the screws are tightened properly, or the steering will shake badly while driving. The whole process took about half an hour, using just a wrench and a screwdriver. Beginners should get a friend to help and take their time—safety comes first.
