How to Remove and Clean the Car Air Conditioning Filter?

Locate the black plastic panel above the passenger footwell, which has two retractable clips. Remove the plastic panel by releasing these clips. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, remove the body control module, and detach the mounting bracket of the body control module. Then, remove the panel on the left side of the passenger's left foot area and take out the air conditioning filter for cleaning.
Last time I cleaned my car's air conditioning filter myself, and it felt quite simple. First, open the glove compartment on the passenger side and empty its contents. There are clips or small buttons on the top of the compartment cover; gently press them down to reveal the filter slot. Carefully pull out the plastic-framed mesh filter. When cleaning, rinse it with tap water, avoiding too strong a water flow to prevent damage. You can use a soft brush to gently remove dust. After rinsing, hang it to dry thoroughly; it must be completely dry before reinstallation to prevent mold. Once dry, align the arrow with the airflow direction and put it back in place. I recommend cleaning it every three months because accumulated dust can easily clog it, affecting the AC's efficiency. Perform the whole process in a garage or well-ventilated area, wearing gloves to protect your hands. I was a bit nervous the first time I removed it, but the actual operation took only about ten minutes. Remember, the location varies slightly by car model—mine is behind the glove compartment, while some cars may have it in the engine bay.
As a user who frequently maintains my own car, cleaning the AC filter is a great way to save money. Generally, the filter is located inside the glove box—after opening it, locate the fasteners and remove them to take out the filter. Once removed, rinse off the dust under a tap, but avoid chemical cleaners as they can cause corrosion. Alternatively, you can use a household vacuum cleaner to remove debris. After rinsing, make sure to dry it thoroughly—usually leaving it outside for half a day is enough. This method costs nothing, whereas a new filter would cost at least several dozen yuan. Cleaning every six months is sufficient, but if you use the AC frequently, check it monthly. Safety-wise, be careful not to wet any electrical circuits in the car. After cleaning, I noticed the AC airflow became noticeably stronger, and odors were significantly reduced. The whole process is simple and quick, even beginners can give it a try.
