Steps to remove a manual gear shift knob: 1. Remove the shift knob. For most manual transmission models, the shift knob is screwed on and may have one or two fixing screws. Remove the fixing screws and rotate the shift knob counterclockwise to take it off; 2. Some models have the shift knob connected to the dust cover. In this case, first loosen the dust cover by prying it out with a trim panel tool, then rotate the shift knob counterclockwise along with the dust cover to remove it; 3. For some models, use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the dust cover away from the shift knob at the connection point, separating the two, then rotate the shift knob counterclockwise to remove it.
