How to Remove a Car Sunroof?

Take out a small flat-head screwdriver and gently pry open the trim panel along the gap with the small flat-head screwdriver. Be careful to do it lightly to avoid breaking the plastic clips inside. Remove the right-side screw. Take out a T-20 spline and use it to gently remove the screw. Keep the removed screw safely. There is a screw on the left side securing the sunroof switch. Remove the second screw and keep it safely for reinstallation. Take out the small flat-head screwdriver again and gently pry open the clips on both sides with it. This will separate the sunroof switch from the headliner. Take out the T-20 spline and use it to remove this screw. Disconnect the wiring harness plugs at the sunroof switch—there are three in total—one by one.
Removing a car sunroof requires a step-by-step process. I've done it myself a few times. First, remember to remove the clips of the headliner using a plastic pry tool, gently prying them open. Next, take off the sunshade bracket to expose the sunroof frame's mounting screws. Always disconnect the power cable first to avoid electrical issues. Be extra careful when removing the sunroof glass—it's best to have two people work together, with one supporting the glass bottom while slowly pushing it outward. When reinstalling, ensure the sealing rubber strip is properly aligned and pressed down to prevent water leakage during rain. For advanced sunroofs with motors, it's advisable to take photos of the wiring harness positions beforehand to avoid incorrect connections during reassembly. Throughout the process, take special care not to scratch the roof leather—wearing gloves is recommended.
