How to Release the Parking Brake on a Cadillac?

After the engine is started, with the driver's side door closed, the parking brake will automatically release when the vehicle moves. The parking brake is commonly referred to as the handbrake. While the engine is running, press the brake pedal, first pull the handle backward while holding the lock button at the end of the handle, then push the handle all the way down.
Last time I encountered this issue, I was also confused. Cadillac's electronic parking brake is actually quite easy to release. After sitting in the driver's seat, first press and hold the brake pedal without releasing your foot, then look for the button with a circled 'P' on the center console. Gently press the button, and when you hear the motor running sound, it means the parking brake is released. The whole process is as natural as turning on automatic wipers. Remember, you must press the brake to operate it, otherwise pressing the button won't respond. Once, my friend forgot to press the brake and kept pressing the button frantically, sweating in anxiety. After releasing, the red 'P' indicator on the dashboard will turn off, which is the success signal. If you occasionally encounter jamming, simply shift back to P gear and operate again, and it usually resolves the issue.
Having driven a Cadillac for so long, I'm most familiar with the parking brake. Releasing it boils down to two core steps: pressing the brake pedal and pushing the P button. Apply moderate pressure on the brake pedal to ensure system detection, then press the square button beside the gearshift – its textured surface prevents slippage. Remember the vehicle must be running with the engine on when disengaging. If unresponsive during urgent use, try pumping the brake pedal a few times before pressing again. Older models require lifting the handbrake lever while pressing the release button, whereas newer versions feature electronic buttons. For first-timers, practice slowly on level ground – this directly impacts driving safety.
