How to Release the Clutch Smoothly?

After starting the engine, press the clutch pedal, engage the gear, and release the handbrake. Apply some throttle and slowly release the clutch. While the left foot gradually releases the clutch, the right foot should gradually press the accelerator. When you hear the engine speed drop, continue releasing the clutch while gradually increasing the throttle. After the clutch is fully released, maintain the throttle position. When the engine speed increases sufficiently, you can start shifting gears. Press the clutch with the left foot while releasing the throttle with the right foot, then press the clutch all the way down to begin shifting. After engaging the gear, slowly release the clutch with the left foot while gradually pressing the accelerator with the right foot.
Releasing the clutch is all about being slow and steady. When I was learning to drive, my instructor always emphasized that the left foot should lift gently and slowly, like stepping on cotton—never rush. First, give a little gas with the right foot to keep the RPM around 1500. As the left foot slowly lifts to the semi-engagement point, the car will slightly vibrate. Pause for half a second before continuing to lift, and the car will start smoothly. Remember, the entire clutch release process shouldn’t exceed three seconds—too fast and the engine may stall, too slow and it’ll wear the clutch disc. On slopes, keep the left foot extra steady while quickly switching the right foot from the brake to the gas. Practice for half an hour in an empty lot to find that semi-engagement point and build muscle memory—then you won’t panic.
