How to Reinstall a Fallen ETC Device?
2 Answers
ETC device installation procedure is as follows: Upon receiving the device, first check if the ETC card and On-Board Unit (OBU) are damaged. Press the anti-tamper button on the back of the OBU. A red light will briefly illuminate, and the OLED screen will display 'Label Invalid' or 'Please Insert Card', indicating the device is functioning normally. Clean the front windshield, ensuring the glass surface is smooth, clean, and dry. Then peel off the adhesive backing film of the OBU and attach it to the installation position. Press firmly for 2-3 minutes to eliminate air bubbles. Insert the ETC card with its front facing the driver and the back facing the windshield, ensuring the chip is properly inserted into the OBU device. ETC installation positions: For small vehicles like cars and minivans, the ETC card and OBU should be installed on the upper middle part of the front windshield. For large vehicles such as trucks and buses, the installation position is on the lower middle part. ETC installation requirements: The height should be no less than 1.2 meters and no more than 2.5 meters; the installation angle N should be between 30º and 90º (the angle between the OBU surface and the horizontal plane).
My ETC has fallen off several times before, so I'm quite experienced in dealing with this. The key to reinstalling it is choosing the right location and ensuring proper cleaning. I usually pick the area near the rearview mirror on the windshield—the center is ideal for strong signal reception and unobstructed view. First, clean the glass surface with a cloth and some alcohol to remove grease and dust, then let it dry completely; otherwise, the adhesive won't hold well. Peel off the protective film from the ETC device's double-sided tape, align it properly, and press firmly for over 30 seconds until you hear a click, indicating it's secured. After installation, remember to test it by driving through a highway toll station to check if the deduction works normally. If it keeps falling off, the adhesive might be ineffective—replace it with new strong double-sided tape or order specialized adhesive strips online. Avoid installing it in high temperatures during summer to prevent melting. I also recommend checking its firmness regularly to avoid getting stuck on the highway and wasting money. After all, ETC is convenient and eco-friendly, saving you from queuing troubles. Keep the device level during installation to avoid signal interference from tilting. If it doesn’t work, visit a service point immediately to save money and hassle.
