How to Refurbish Car Headlights?

Car headlights can be refurbished using the polishing method, which is a commonly used refurbishment technique in car detailing shops. This repair method is quick and convenient, providing excellent refurbishment results at a low cost. The principle is similar to polishing a car's paint surface: first, clean the dust and dirt from the headlight surface, then sand it with water sandpaper, and finally, use a towel dipped in polishing wax to polish in a circular motion. Car headlights, also known as car front headlights or car LED daytime running lights, serve as the 'eyes' of the car. They not only affect the owner's external image but are also crucial for safe driving at night or in poor weather conditions. The use and maintenance of car lights should not be overlooked.
I really enjoy DIY headlight restoration. When my car's headlight covers turned yellow and visibility was poor, I spent two hours fixing them myself. First, I washed off dust and grease with water and dish soap. Then, wearing gloves, I wet-sanded the surface, starting with 800-grit coarse sandpaper for five minutes of even sanding, then switched to 1200-grit, and finally used 2000-grit fine sandpaper to achieve a smooth finish. After sanding, I rinsed thoroughly to remove any grit, applied polishing compound with a soft cloth in circular motions for ten minutes to restore shine, and finally sprayed UV sealant as a protective layer to prevent UV damage once dried. The whole process cost about 50-60 RMB, and the headlights looked brand new immediately, making night driving much safer. Restoration also extends the headlights' lifespan, avoiding expensive replacements. Parking in shaded areas helps reduce aging—super practical results!
