How to Reactivate ETC?

Methods for ETC reactivation: Insert and remove the ETC card twice consecutively until the electronic tag screen displays "Bluetooth is on". If "Tag invalid" appears when inserting/removing twice without the electronic tag attached, this is normal and does not affect activation. Alternatively, you can directly press the button on top of the electronic tag to enable Bluetooth function. Turn on your phone's Bluetooth, open the corresponding mobile APP (usually there's a download QR code on the electronic tag), and enter the device activation interface. Click "Device Connection" and wait patiently for the "Connection successful" prompt. After successful connection, upload a photo of the vehicle's front to complete activation. ETC installation positions: For small vehicles like cars and minivans, the ETC card and OBU device should be installed on the upper middle part of the front windshield. For large vehicles like trucks and buses, the installation position is on the lower middle part.
I used to commute to work using ETC frequently, but once it suddenly stopped working, which was quite troublesome. I checked my account and found that the card had expired and the balance was insufficient. I immediately downloaded the expressway app on my phone, logged in, topped up some money, and then clicked the reactivation button in the settings. It was all sorted out in just a few minutes. Later, I specifically asked a friend and learned that some devices might deactivate automatically if they become loose or have unpaid fees for too long. I recommend setting up an automatic recharge reminder to avoid wasting time like I did. Also, testing if the ETC light is working properly before driving is safer and more convenient.
After the small ETC device is deactivated, you need to get it working again. I found the simplest method is to open the mobile app, such as the Expressway Pass app, log in, navigate to the ETC management section, and then recharge or update the settings after confirming the vehicle information is correct. If you don’t have the app, you can directly visit a service outlet and let the staff help activate it—just bring your vehicle license and ID, and it’ll be done quickly. Usually, be careful not to expose the card to high temperatures or drop it to reduce malfunctions. When reactivating, avoid doing it while driving; find a safe place to handle it.
