Inspect the dent on the current vehicle, determine the location of the dent, and assess the difficulty of the dent repair based on the size of the dent. Based on the assessment, visit a local 4S shop to seek relevant personnel for repairs.

Last time my garage door scratched the car body, I tried the hot glue method. I got one of those car-specific hot glue guns online—melt the glue stick, apply it to a pad, and stick it to the dent. Once the glue dried, I used a puller to slowly pull it out. Plastic bumpers are the trickiest; you need to heat them with a hairdryer until they soften slightly before pulling, or they might crack. Remember, for small dents on metal panels, don’t heat them above 200°C, or you’ll burn the primer. During the pulling process, apply gentle force in multiple stages—if you rush and pull too hard at once, the dent might bulge out like toast, and you’ll have to hammer it back from the inside. This method works best for shallow, coin-sized dents. For bigger dents, just skip the hassle and go straight to a body repair specialist.

Check out this dent repair tool set in my workshop: five sizes of bridge pullers with various shaped hooks. When dealing with a dent in the middle of a car door, you need to make three finger-sized holes in the inner liner panel and insert a specially designed pry bar to push against the steel panel. While pushing, you must use a magnetic light against the car body to observe the curvature changes. The worst fear is overstretching the steel panel, causing an irreversible crease that even filler can't smooth out. Door corners are the toughest—last time, fixing the waistline of a Mini took a full three hours. Nowadays, the new paintless dent repair (PDR) machines work quite well, but small shops usually don’t have this equipment.

The standard repair shop procedure involves four steps: remove interior panels to expose the back of the steel plate, use graduated push rods for precise pressure application, observe shadow changes with xenon side lighting, and finish with rubber hammer adjustments for micro-deformations. For deep V-shaped dents, first use a hot melt glue puller to lift the main depression before refining edges with push rods. Post-repair, measure flatness with a straightedge—tolerances must not exceed 0.5mm for approval. Remember fixing neighbor Lao Zhang’s Buick LaCrosse hood? Post-repair, sunlight revealed no trace of the collision.

There's a new paintless dent repair method perfect for new cars. They use an endoscope with a camera to peek inside door panel gaps, analyzing the metal grain direction on the backside of dents. Special tools then apply precise pressure from inside like acupuncture, completely preserving the factory paint. My cousin's Tesla door got a shopping cart dent at the supermarket - post-repair, even paint thickness gauges couldn't detect any repair marks. But forget about double-layered roof panels though, manufacturers weld reinforcement beams that block tool access completely.

What Causes the Gurgling Water Sound When the Car Stops?

The gurgling water sound when the car stops is caused by gas in the cold exhaust pipe waiting to be re-burned. Possible reasons for sounds when the car stops include: 1. Cooling sound of the three-way catalytic converter: The normal operating temperature of the three-way catalytic converter is between 400 to 800 degrees Celsius. After turning off the engine, it gradually stops working, the temperature drops, and internal metal components expand and contract due to heat, producing abnormal noises; 2. Cooling sound of the exhaust pipe: The temperature of the exhaust pipe during cold idle is around 200 degrees Celsius, and the thermal expansion and contraction of the exhaust pipe cause abnormal noises; 3. Turbo cooling sound: The rapid rotation and friction of the turbocharger generate high temperatures. After turning off the engine, the thermal expansion and contraction become very noticeable, producing abnormal noises; 4. Abnormal noises caused by uneven cooling of the engine: The engine temperature is very high, and after turning off the engine, the temperature of various components drops at different rates, leading to gaps between internal metal parts cooling and contracting, resulting in friction and abnormal noises.

Should You Inspect the Car or Pay First When Taking Delivery?

Generally, the car delivery process involves inspecting the vehicle first. Do not rush to make the payment before thoroughly checking the new car, as once the payment is made, it essentially means all procedures are completed, handing over the initiative to the dealer. If any issues are found during the inspection afterward, it may become inconvenient to request a refund or exchange. Key considerations when taking delivery of a new car are as follows: 1. Taxation: Taxation is an essential step in the car purchase process. Most tax payment windows for vehicles do not accept cash, so it is advisable to prepare a bank card in advance. Typically, the vehicle management office also has dedicated tax payment windows where you can complete this process. 2. Selecting the Model and Configuration: The first step in buying a car is to choose the model and the desired configuration. When selecting a model, it is crucial to consider your budget. The principle of car selection is to first determine the type of vehicle you want—such as a sedan or SUV—and then prioritize the parameters that matter most to you, such as fuel consumption, maintenance costs, space, noise levels, and cargo capacity.

What kind of memory card is used for dash cams?

Currently, the vast majority of dash cams use Micro-SD cards, originally named Trans-flash-Card (TF card), which is a member of the SD-Card Association. Due to their small size, fast transfer speed, and support for hot-swapping, they are widely used in mobile phones, navigation devices, and some automotive electronic products. The dimensions are only 15x11x1mm. Additional information is as follows: 1. How loop recording works: The video footage from dash cams is stored on removable memory cards. Videos are typically segmented into 1, 3, or 5-minute clips based on user settings. When the memory card is nearly full, the dash cam automatically deletes the oldest clip to store newly recorded videos, preventing storage shortages. 2. TF card: The memory card used in dash cams is also called a TF card, short for Trans-flash-Card. It supports hot-swapping, can be rewritten repeatedly, offers fast storage speeds, and is compact in size. These advantages make it widely used in various electronic devices for data storage. It is particularly suitable for the frequent read-write operations of dash cams, enabling the loop recording function. Depending on the size of the memory card, it can continuously loop and store recorded video footage.
