How to Operate the KAMIQ Automatic Transmission?
2 Answers
The KAMIQ automatic transmission has gear positions divided into P, R, N, D, and S. The vehicle can only be started in the P or N positions. To shift out of the P position, you must press the brake pedal. First, turn on the power, press the brake pedal to shift the gear lever to the N position, then start the ignition, and finally shift into the D position to drive forward.
Operating the KAMIQ automatic transmission, as an experienced automatic driver, I'd like to share some tips. Generally, the first step is to ensure you're seated in the driver's position, depress the brake pedal, then start the engine using the key or push-button ignition. After the engine runs normally, the gear defaults to P (Park). Keeping your foot on the brake, gently shift the gear lever from P to D (Drive) for forward motion or R (Reverse) for backing up. Gradually release the brake and lightly press the accelerator to get moving. The driving experience is smooth—whether in city traffic or on highways, you rarely need to touch the gearshift as the transmission changes gears automatically. When parking, always depress the brake, shift back to P, engage the electronic parking brake or handbrake, then turn off the engine. The KAMIQ's operation is quite user-friendly. I find its gear response quick and well-coordinated with throttle control, delivering a comfortable driving experience without the hassle of manual shifting, making it easy for beginners to adapt quickly.
