How to Operate the Gear Shifting in an Automatic Transmission?

Press the brake pedal of the car, push the one-touch start button, the dashboard lights up, and the vehicle starts. Place the automatic gear lever in the -D+ position to enter manual mode. Push the gear lever forward once to increase one gear. Pull the gear lever backward once to decrease one gear.
As an average driver who enjoys exploring car features, I find the manual shifting operation in automatic transmission cars quite interesting. Many vehicles now come with paddle shifters or +/- buttons on the gear lever. For example, when climbing steep hills needing more power, I gently push the "-" button on the left side of the steering wheel to downshift - the increased RPM gives better acceleration. During long descents, downshifting helps utilize engine braking to slow down and protect brake pads. Pushing the "+" button upshifts to lower RPM for better fuel efficiency, especially useful during highway cruising. But don't overdo it - sustained high RPM can damage the engine. When I first got my car, I practiced in open areas a few times. Remember to check your owner's manual about activation modes - some cars require "S" gear or manual mode. This feature proves most useful for weekend road trips or mountain driving, while in city traffic it's better to let the automatic transmission handle shifts itself.
