How to Open the Reserve Fuel Tank on a Motorcycle?

The fuel tank switch is usually located on the left side of the motorcycle. Once you locate the fuel tank, you will see a switch underneath it. The area marked with a white frame is the fuel tank switch. Turning it upwards opens the reserve fuel tank. Setting it to the middle position closes the tank, and turning it downwards opens the main fuel tank.
As a veteran rider with twenty years of motorcycle experience, I recall times on the highway when the fuel gauge hit red, and the main tank ran dry, relying on the reserve tank to keep going. Most motorcycles have a small knob at the bottom of the fuel tank marked 'MAIN' and 'RESERVE.' Don’t rush to switch it while riding—first slow down, pull over safely, turn off the engine, then locate the knob and gently turn it to 'RESERVE.' I always check for fuel flow after switching; otherwise, the entire tank might be empty. The reserve tank has a small capacity, typically good for a few dozen kilometers before needing to refuel at a service station. Remember, this design is for emergencies—don’t rely on it regularly. During routine maintenance, clean the fuel valve to prevent clogs and malfunctions, ensuring a safer ride. For long trips, carrying a spare fuel bottle is an extra precaution.
