Opening the hood of the Leiling is actually quite simple and can be done in two steps. First, sit in the driver's seat and look down near your left leg under the dashboard. There's a small lever with an engine symbol on it—give it a firm pull, and you'll hear a 'click' sound, which means the hood is unlocked. Second, get out of the car and walk to the front. The hood will now have popped open slightly. Reach inside, and in the middle, you'll find a metal latch. Push it to the right with your fingers while lifting the hood with your left hand. Be sure to apply some force to hold it up, as the hood is quite heavy. Once lifted, there's a support rod in the front—pull it out and prop it under the hood. Many beginners struggle to find the hood release, but it's pretty much the same in every Toyota model, usually hidden near the driver's knee area. When lifting, don’t let go too quickly—if the support rod isn’t properly secured, the hood could slam down, which is risky. The Leiling’s hood is made of aluminum alloy, and repairing a dent can be expensive. Oh, and don’t open the hood immediately after driving in summer—the engine will be scorching hot.
I'm very familiar with the Corolla's hood opening procedure and have taught many people. First, enter the car without pressing the brake pedal, then start the engine or power on. Bend down to locate the hood release handle below the left side of the steering wheel - it's a black plastic lever with textured grip. Pull it firmly all the way back and hold until you hear a 'pop' sound from the engine compartment before releasing. Walk to the front of the car where you'll see the hood slightly raised about 2cm. Slide your hand into the gap and feel along the centerline until you find a spring-loaded latch. Hook it with your index finger and push to the right while lifting the hood with your other hand. If you can't find the safety catch at first, crouch down and look - it's positioned directly above the grille emblem. Older Corolla models have yellow safety catches for easy identification, while newer versions use black but maintain the same tactile feel.
