How to open the hood when the release cable of the Touareg is detached?

Open the hood and adjust the position of the latch pin. You will need a large adjustable wrench. Check if the position where the latch pin is inserted is misaligned in any direction (front, back, left, or right). If it is misaligned, adjust it to the correct position. If it is not misaligned, unscrew it by 2-3 turns, and then pulling it from inside the car will easily open the hood. Generally, if the lock mechanism is located in front of the engine cross member, you can remove the front fender of the engine and reach in to release the lock mechanism. If it cannot be released, then remove it.
Hey, I helped a friend deal with this Touareg issue last time. When the hood release cable detaches, forcing it open might damage the paint. Try finding an access point from underneath: first, crawl under and check the inner side of the passenger-side frame for a backup cable loop. If you can't find it, you'll need to remove the front wheel's inner fender liner to reach in and feel for the latch mechanism. Remember to prepare a long-handled screwdriver and a flashlight, and it's best to have a thin wire as a hook. This job is easier with two people—feel for the latch linkage and use force to lift it upward. Don't forget to replace the cable immediately afterward; German car designs can be really user-unfriendly. Oh, and make sure the jack is stable during the operation—safety first!
Veteran drivers know the tricks when facing this situation. The Touareg's hood lock features a dual-latch mechanism, and a detached cable can indeed be troublesome. There's a hidden solution in the spare tire well – lift the trunk mat and open the small cover on the right side to find the emergency release handle. If this feature isn't available, you'll need some technical skills: remove the plastic cover above the air intake grille and fashion a U-shaped hook from a stiff wire. The key is to target the small red tab on the driver-side lock mechanism – once you hear a click, immediately move to repeat the action on the passenger-side lock. This is just how the vehicle is designed, so after dealing with it, we recommend directly upgrading to a dual-cable setup for reliability.
