How to Open the Hood When the Release Cable of the Tiguan is Broken?

Remove the front left wheel and wheel cover, then remove the front left turn signal. If the cable is broken, never attempt to pry the hood open with brute force, as this could damage the hood latch. At the location of the turn signal, find the hood latch release cable and pull it downward firmly to open the hood.
I've encountered a situation where the release cable snapped before. The hood lock on the Tiguan is located directly behind the emblem. Get a flashlight and look underneath the car from below—you'll find the hood lock assembly on the inner side of the front bumper. Use a wire or a long screwdriver to push upward against the metal latch plate through the gap under the car. You'll hear a click when it unlocks. Just be gentle to avoid damaging the radiator. This method works in a pinch, but make sure you're in a well-lit area and take your time. After opening it, remember to head straight to a repair shop to replace the cable—it only costs a few dozen bucks. I recommend having mechanics apply some silicone lubricant to the cable during routine maintenance, especially in colder northern regions where plastic parts can become brittle. Older cars in particular need this attention.
