How to open the hood of the X-Trail?

The hood release switch of the X-Trail is located under the left side of the dashboard. Pull this switch to release the hood, then go to the position where the hood pops open and flip the mechanical switch to open the front hood. Below are some engine maintenance methods: 1. Regularly change the engine oil and oil filter. If the filter is clogged, it may burst the filter element or open the safety valve, accelerating engine wear and increasing internal contamination. 2. Regularly clean the fuel system. When cleaning the engine fuel system, use an engine no-clean detergent. 3. Regularly maintain the crankcase. If the PCV valve is blocked, contaminated gases will flow back into the air filter, polluting the filter element and reducing its filtering ability. Inhaling dirty mixed air can lead to increased fuel consumption, accelerated engine wear, and even engine damage.
When I first bought my X-Trail, I didn’t know how to open the hood either—it took me a few days to figure it out. First, sit in the driver’s seat and look for the small lever with an engine icon near your left foot. Give it a firm pull, and you’ll hear a ‘click’ as the hood pops open slightly. Don’t rush to get out yet; wait until the hood is fully released. Then, walk to the front of the car, reach into the gap, and feel for a small yellow latch in the middle. Push it all the way to the left (some model years require pushing it to the right), while using your other hand to lift the hood—it should open easily. Don’t forget to pull out the red support rod and insert it into the hole to secure the hood. The rod is usually located near the radiator. Once, I forgot the support rod and almost got my hand smashed—so this step is crucial. You’ll need to open the hood often for things like refilling washer fluid, so practice a few times to get the hang of it. If the safety latch gets stuck, don’t force it—just spray some WD-40 on the lock to lubricate it.
