How to Open the Hood of the BYD Han?

Shift to Park or Neutral, and pull up the EPB switch. Then pull up the front hood release handle located on the left side of the dashboard, and the front hood will pop up slightly. At the front of the car, insert your fingers under the front edge of the hood, then move your fingers to the left until you touch the hood latch. Push the latch upward and lift the hood. Raise the hood upward, and the support rod will automatically hold it in place.
When I first bought my car and was driving the BYD Han, I noticed the hood was quite easy to open. You need to first sit in the driver's seat, close the door, and make sure the car is turned off or in park. Then, bend down and look near your left foot—there's a small lever located either below the dashboard or on the floor. Give it a firm pull, and you'll hear a click as the hood unlocks. Next, step out of the car and walk to the front. There's a small gap in the middle or slightly to the left of the hood—slide your fingers in and gently press a small hook or lever inside, then lift the entire hood. The first time I did this, it took me a while to find the right spot. Later, I realized the BYD Han's hood covers the battery and cooling system, so be careful not to burn your hands, especially right after a long drive. Remember to check the user manual or watch a video on the mobile app—BYD provides detailed guides to avoid damaging anything by forcing it open. Regularly opening the hood to check the windshield washer fluid and brake fluid is important, especially before long trips to ensure everything is in order.
As a seasoned driver with years of experience behind the wheel, having driven various models including the BYD Han, opening the hood is quite straightforward: After sitting in the driver's seat, press the brake pedal and pull the raised release lever located beneath the inner side of the driver's door—one pull is sufficient. Then, unfasten the seatbelt, exit the vehicle, and proceed to the center of the front hood. There's a small latch on the hood; typically, you'll need to reach underneath with your hand and give the lever a gentle push or lift to open the hood. For safety, ensure the vehicle is completely turned off and has cooled down for at least five minutes before attempting this to avoid burns from hot components. The BYD Han's hood offers ample space underneath, housing key components such as the battery pack, making it convenient to check fluid levels or charging status once opened. If the lever gets stuck or the hood won't open, avoid forcing it as it might be a wiring issue; instead, gently adjust it with a wrench or visit a 4S shop for assistance. Familiarizing yourself with this operation when you first purchase the car can greatly aid in routine maintenance.
