How to Open the Hood of an Old Focus?

The hood release switch of the Focus is located inside the vehicle, so you need to open it from inside the car. You can find a switch on the left side of the foot pedal—this is the hood release switch. Press it to open the hood. Place the hydraulic strut into the slot on the hood to support it and prevent the hood from falling and causing injury.
I've driven quite a few older Focus models, and opening the hood definitely requires some experience. First, make sure the car is parked on level ground, in P gear with the handbrake engaged—safety first. Get into the driver's seat and look for the hood release handle near the floor corner by your left foot. It's a small plastic loop—give it a firm pull until you hear a click. Then, go to the front of the car, bend down, and locate the metal hook-shaped release lever under the Ford emblem in the grille. Use your finger to hook or push it upward, and the hood will pop open slightly. Older cars might have rusty or sticky linkages—if it gets stuck, don’t force it. Try wiggling the lever a few times or gently prying it with a stick, then apply some engine oil for lubrication. Don’t forget to secure the support rod properly after opening to prevent it from suddenly dropping and causing injury. Regular checks on this mechanism can save you trouble, as mechanical parts tend to wear out over time.
