How to Open the Hood of a Jeep Compass?

There is a square-shaped lever located on the lower left side inside the driver's position. Pull it to release the hood spring, then move it to the left and lift the hood. Additional information regarding hood adjustment and installation is as follows: 1. Hood Removal. Open the hood, cover the car body with a soft cloth, detach the windshield washer nozzles and hoses from the hood, mark the hinge positions of the hood, and remove the bolts fixing the hood to the hinges to prevent the hood from slipping after bolt removal. 2. Hood Installation and Adjustment. Hood installation should be performed in the reverse order of removal. Before tightening the bolts fixing the hood to the hinges, adjust the hood forward, backward, left, and right. The height can be adjusted using hinge shims and rubber buffers to ensure uniform gap alignment. 3. Adjustment of the Foldable Hood Lock Control Mechanism. Before adjusting the hood lock, properly align the hood, loosen the fixing bolts, move the lock head forward, backward, left, and right to align with the lock seat. The front end of the hood can be adjusted in height via the dovetail bolt on the lock head.
When I first got my Compass, I also spent quite some time figuring it out! There's a handle with an engine icon on the floor below the driver's seat—pull it upwards firmly. After hearing a click, go to the front of the car and slide your fingers into the gap of the hood. You'll feel a small metal tab; push it to the left while lifting the hood. Remember not to do this when the engine is scalding hot to avoid burning your hand. During my last maintenance, the mechanic mentioned many people don’t know about the second step—finding the safety latch—and just keep pulling inside the car, unable to open the stuck hood.
