How to Open the Fuel Tank Cap on the Equinox?

Start the vehicle and check the dashboard. Look for the fuel level indicator symbol. If you see an arrow pointing to the right, it means the fuel filler cap is located on the right side. The switch is located on the fuel tank cap itself. When the engine is off, simply press the fuel tank cap gently, and it will automatically pop open.
I recently bought an Equinox and initially didn’t understand how to open the fuel door. It’s actually very simple. After getting into the driver’s seat, first locate the small button on the door panel with a fuel tank icon or labeled ‘fuel door release,’ and press it lightly to unlock. Then, step out of the car, walk to the fuel filler area, and press the right side of the fuel door—it will pop open. If the car is locked, make sure to unlock the doors first for it to work. Once, while washing the car, the button didn’t respond—it might have been a fuse issue or a faulty button. In such cases, don’t force it; check the owner’s manual or take it to a dealership for inspection. Always remember to turn off the engine before refueling to avoid potential fuel leaks or accidents. The Equinox’s design is quite safe, preventing unauthorized access to the fuel tank. Other models like Buick have similar mechanisms, but Chevrolet’s button placement is very convenient. Just practice a few times, and you’ll get used to it—no need to rush.
