First, use the key to unlock the trunk and open it. Check the location of the fuel tank cap. If it is on the right side, there will be a decorative cover panel on the right side of the trunk. Use a tool to open the decorative cover panel, and you will see a red emergency release device. Pull the emergency release device to open the fuel tank cap. For most cars, the fuel tank cap release cable and the mechanism to pop open the fuel tank cap are two separate components.

Opening the fuel filler cap on my own Range Rover Evoque is quite a straightforward process. Typically, as long as the vehicle is unlocked—whether by pressing the unlock button on the remote key or via automatic door unlocking—I can simply walk to the fuel filler cap located on the right rear side of the car, then gently press the far-right edge of the cap with my finger. A slight push is all it takes for it to pop open effortlessly. This design is very user-friendly, eliminating the need to fumble for buttons inside the car, which is especially handy when carrying items. If the cap doesn’t open, don’t force it; first, check if the car is genuinely unlocked. Occasionally, it might be an electronic sensor issue—restarting the key or holding down the fuel cap button on the key can help. From my driving experience, regularly cleaning the edges of the fuel cap prevents dust buildup from affecting the spring mechanism. Also, remember to tighten the cap after refueling to avoid fuel odors leaking into the cabin.

I've discovered that the fuel filler flap operation on the Range Rover Evoque is actually based on an intelligent electronic system. When you unlock the vehicle, the entire body including the fuel filler flap enters a ready state; pressing a specific point on the exterior of the flap - typically the right-side area where there's a built-in mechanical sensor - triggers the electronic lock release mechanism, causing the flap to pop open automatically. This isn't controlled by a traditional key, designed instead to enhance anti-theft performance, meaning it can only be opened when the vehicle is unlocked. Occasionally, malfunctions like sensor jams or low battery voltage may cause the fuel filler flap to become unresponsive; in such cases, there's a manual release lever provided in the boot, with its location detailed in the owner's manual. From a vehicle structure perspective, this system is integrated into the central control circuitry, making maintenance straightforward - simply keeping the surrounding area free of dirt is sufficient. I often discuss cars with friends, and this design saves many owners the hassle of searching for additional buttons.

As a beginner just getting familiar with luxury SUVs, let me briefly explain the steps: First, make sure the vehicle is unlocked - either press the unlock button on the remote key or use the interior button. Second, walk to the right rear side of the car to locate the fuel filler door. Third, gently press the right side of the door's outer surface with one hand, applying slight pressure, and the door will immediately pop open ready for refueling. If it doesn't respond, check whether the door lock indicator is lit or try resetting the key signal. Remember, the engine must be turned off during refueling for safety. When I was learning, I almost made mistakes, but after getting familiar with it, I found the process very convenient and it effectively prevents fuel tank exposure risks.
