How to Open the Car Hood?

To open the car hood, follow these steps: 1. Open the car door and sit in the driver's seat, then locate the hood release handle on the left side of the driver's seat; 2. Pull the hood release handle until you hear a 'click' sound; 3. A noticeable gap will appear on the engine hood; 4. Pull the safety latch; 5. Use the support rod to prop up the hood by inserting its tip into the designated slot on the hood. The engine hood is made of rubber foam and aluminum foil materials, which not only reduce engine noise but also isolate the heat generated during engine operation, effectively protecting the paint on the hood surface from aging.
Every time I open the hood, I start the operation from inside the car. Under the driver's seat, slightly to the left, I feel for the hood release lever—usually a plastic handle or metal rod. A firm pull will make a 'click' sound as the front hood pops up. Then, I step out and walk to the front of the car. In the middle of the hood, there's a safety latch, often a plastic clip or metal hook. Press or slide it to unlock, and the hood can be fully lifted. Throughout the process, ensure the engine is off, the key is removed, and the handbrake is engaged to prevent accidental startup and hand injuries. Different car models vary—SUVs and sedans have similar lever positions, but some sports cars hide the lever under the center console. If it gets stuck, don’t force it; try gently shaking it or lubricating the hinge. Regularly checking the lever’s flexibility is crucial to prevent rust and jamming. I clean off dust every quarter to keep the operation smooth.
