How to Open the Borgward Trunk?

There is a button in the center console area; press it to open the trunk. Use the trunk button on the key, press and hold for 2-3 seconds to open it. If the smart key is not nearby and remote opening is not possible, press and hold the trunk button on the key for 2 seconds to open it.
The trunk opening method of Borgward cars is actually quite simple, mainly relying on three ways for daily operation: the remote key, the in-car switch, and the trunk lid button. Press the button with the trunk icon on the remote key, and the lock will pop open, which works within a range of 20-30 meters. You don't even need to go to the trunk when sitting in the car; there's a dedicated button either below the steering wheel or on the driver's door panel—just press it, and you'll hear the sound of the lock popping open. If you're moving stuff near the car, simply lift the trunk handle, and there's a physical button at the bottom—press it to open. Higher-end models are even smarter; just wave your foot under the rear bumper to activate the sensor, and the lid will open automatically. However, make sure the car is unlocked and in P gear, or it might not respond. If pressing the button doesn't work, first check if the key battery has power. If that's not the issue, it could be a blown fuse or poor wiring contact, in which case it's best to consult a professional mechanic.
I usually use the car key and door buttons to open the Borgward trunk. The button with the trunk symbol on the key is super convenient—just press it from a distance and the trunk pops open. When in the driver's seat, there's no need to take your hands off the steering wheel; just press the small button with the trunk icon in the left control area, and it's done. If you're near the rear of the car, there's a physical button slightly to the right under the trunk lid—a light press with a click sound opens it. Newer models come with a kick sensor; just swipe your foot under the trunk to open it. Once, after a trip, it wouldn't open no matter what, but later I realized it was because the gear was in D—switching back to P fixed it immediately. Normally, the trunk automatically locks when the car is locked, and you need to use the key to unlock the whole car before operating it. On rainy days, the buttons might occasionally malfunction, possibly due to water seeping into the circuits—it's recommended to dry them off and press repeatedly a few times.
Opening the Borgward trunk primarily relies on electronic signals. Pressing the key button activates the trunk motor via wireless signal. The switch at the driver's position sends an electrical signal to the control module. The physical button on the trunk lid is also an electronic switch that triggers the relay. Some models are equipped with a kick sensor, which captures motion signals via a microwave detector. All methods require the battery to be functioning properly and the fuse to be intact. Upon receiving the command, the control unit releases the latch motor. Remember to park in P gear. During continuous opening and closing, the control module may overheat and enter protection mode; just let it cool for five minutes. In case of electrical system failure, an emergency pull cord is located inside the trunk lining.
