How to Open a Volkswagen Door with the Key?

There is usually a decorative piece at the end of the door handle that is about the same size as the key. Pry open this decorative piece to reveal the keyhole. Press the hidden button on the left side of the metal cover on the key to release the mechanical key. Insert the key into the door keyhole and turn it to the left to open the door.
I've driven Volkswagen cars for decades, and every time the remote key fob runs out of battery, I simply take out the physical key to unlock the door. In Volkswagen models, the keyhole is usually located on the inner side or beneath the door handle, covered by a small plastic cap. You can gently pry it open with a small tool to reveal the keyhole. Insert the key and turn it clockwise to unlock—it's that simple. However, be cautious in winter; avoid forcing the key if the lock is frozen, as it might break. It's advisable to regularly check and clean the lock hole, occasionally adding lubricant to prevent rust. If the keyhole gets clogged, try clearing it with a wire. If that doesn’t work, contact a repair shop. Volkswagen's design is quite thoughtful—opening the driver’s door may automatically unlock the entire car, combining convenience and safety. Always keep a spare key handy for emergencies, especially during long trips, to avoid being stranded by battery issues.
