How to License a Car?

Prepare relevant documents such as ID card and household registration book. Receive forms, fill them out, take photos, and complete some certifications that require the presence of the car owner. Then submit the files. Go to the number selection hall to submit other files, then pay the fees. After payment, you can select the license plate number.
When I went through the new car registration process last year, it went relatively smoothly overall, though there were some minor hassles. I remember after purchasing the car, I had to prepare all the necessary documents first—things like my ID card, purchase invoice, vehicle certification, and compulsory insurance policy—otherwise, it would have been a wasted trip to the DMV. I booked the vehicle inspection time online in advance, which saved me a lot of waiting time. On-site staff checked the vehicle's VIN, engine number, and emissions. Once it passed inspection, I could proceed to choose a license plate number. The plate selection part was quite exciting—I randomly picked a number I liked from the machine. Then, I paid the purchase tax and administrative fees, which amounted to a few thousand yuan, and received the temporary license plate and vehicle registration certificate on the spot. After getting home, I installed the license plate myself—it was very simple. I’d advise newcomers to avoid peak periods, like weekends or the beginning of the month, when the place is packed and you might have to wait forever. Also, if you’re buying a car from another city, make sure to get a temporary pass before hitting the road.
